Former Chicago Bears defensive back Buster Skrine is on the run from the Canadian police. The former NFL player failed to show up for a court hearing on Monday, and the police are actively searching for him.
Buster Skrine used to go after wide receivers downfield during his time in the NFL, which included a stint with the Chicago Bears. This time, however, he’s the one on the run, with reports surfacing that police are hunting the former pro defensive back over fraud allegations in Canada.
Police arrested Buster Skrine at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Wednesday as he attempted to return to the United States, and the former NFL cornerback now faces multiple fraud charges.
The 34-year-old Skrine is accused of illegally obtaining money from at least four different financial institutions. He is facing 15 charges, including four counts of fraud over $5,000.
At the start of training camp, the Tennessee Titans had to deal with the surprise retirement of Buster Skrine. While he didn’t spend a lot of time in Tennessee, he looked perfect for the veteran, backup cornerback role during his time in Nashville.
NASHVILLE – It took a couple days, but Buster Skrine’s roster spot has been filled. The Tennessee Titans announced Friday that that have signed defensive back Shakur Brown, who most recently played in the USFL this spring as a member of the Pittsburgh Maulers.
The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with free-agent defensive back Shakur Brown, the team announced on Friday morning. Brown most recently played with the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL.
Veteran defensive back Buster Skrine has informed the Titans that he’ll be retiring.
Skrine, who turned 33 years old in April, originally signed with the Titans last November and appeared in six regular-season games, along with the postseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
If the team’s top DBs play to their caliber, they could be in line for another successful defensive performance in 2022.
The Titans are bringing back two of their minor free agents who joined the team last season.
Buster Skrine was one of the players Mike Vrabel labeled “stray cats” last season. The veteran cornerback was among the several veterans who were unsigned for a significant portion of the 2021 NFL schedule before the Tennessee Titans brought them in to help offset a seemingly endless string of injury issues.
The NFL is aggressively emphasizing the prohibition on taunting this year. Except when it isn’t. On Sunday against the Titans, Patriots receiver Kendrick Bourne capped an impressive 41-yard catch and run for a touchdown by flashing a peace sign at cornerback Buster Skrine just before entering the end zone.
The 49ers may not be playing in Week 6, but that didn’t stop the team from reshuffling their cornerbacks depth chart.
The 49ers are reeling at corner, having seen several key players suffer injuries in recent weeks.
After two seasons, the Bears will move on from Buster Skrine.
The slot position has become a disaster area for the Bears on both sides of the football. If they want to improve their ability to damage defenses or to match up against offenses, they need to pay more attention to players who can be mismatches or handle matchups in the middle of the field besides tight ends or linebackers.
