Steelers’ Russell Wilson Admits He’s Inspired By The 2024 Draft: 'Love This Draft Class'
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have wrapped up their 2024 NFL draft with the addition of seven promising players to their roster. The draft kicked off with the selection of offensive tackle Troy Fautanu in the first round. Following that, they bolstered their lineup with center Zach Frazier in the second round and wide receiver Roman Wilson in the third.

Continuing their strategic picks, the Steelers added Payton Wilson in the same round. On the draft's final day, they secured another offensive lineman, Mason McCormick, as well as defensive tackle Logan Lee in the sixth round, concluding with defensive back Ryan Watts.

The Steelers' draft strategy, orchestrated by Omar Khan and Andy Weidl, has garnered widespread praise from pundits. They've effectively addressed key areas of need while unearthing significant value in their selections. As of now, the Steelers' draft is deemed a success, although only time will reveal its true impact. Nevertheless, Steelers fans are currently elated.

In addition to the draft excitement, the Steelers' new quarterback, Russell Wilson, closely followed his team's draft moves. He took to social media on Saturday to express his candid thoughts about the draft process.

As Wilson pointed out, the Steelers have acquired a cohort of resilient, physical, and athletic players, a fact that greatly pleased him as he observed his new team's draft strategy. For Wilson, the 2024 season symbolizes more than just a fresh start; it's a pivotal moment in his career. With nine Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl championship under his belt, Wilson's recent struggles with the Denver Broncos have left him as fodder for league-wide ridicule.

After signing a lucrative contract with the Broncos, Wilson's performance faltered, leading many to view his move to Pittsburgh as his final opportunity to demonstrate his elite quarterbacking prowess.

A successful draft outcome would undoubtedly bolster his prospects and trajectory for the upcoming season. Wilson is renowned for his patience in the pocket, allowing plays to develop, a strategy that relies heavily on a solid offensive line—a facet the Steelers are evidently prioritizing, much to Wilson's delight.

While Wilson's tenure with the Broncos was marred by a lack of victories, it's unfair to attribute all their woes solely to him. Now, as the Steelers' starting quarterback, he is eager to dispel any notion that he was the root cause of Denver's struggles and return to the heights of success.

Should Wilson perform above expectations for the Steelers, aided by a formidable defense and a potent running game, the team could be poised for numerous victories and a playoff win. Indeed, if Wilson can reclaim his status as a top-tier quarterback, the Steelers could transform into a formidable force to be reckoned with and maybe make a deep postseason run.

Steelers' Omar Khan Is Not Finished

While Wilson is delighted with the progress of the offseason since joining the Steelers, it seems that Khan isn't resting on his laurels. The cornerback position remains a concern, with speculation swirling about a potential return for Cameron Sutton. Additionally, despite already securing a wide receiver via the draft, rumors persist about a potential trade for a veteran like Courtland Sutton.

Should the Steelers manage to acquire both Cam Sutton and Courtland Sutton, it would cap off one of the most impressive offseasons on paper in recent memory for the organization. With the 2024 season brimming with anticipation and optimism, all eyes are now on how the Steelers' rookies and new additions will perform on the field.
