Bengals provide major update on Joe Burrow's recovery from wrist surgery

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow underwent season-ending wrist surgery back in November, but it seems like he is making great progress.

When asked about Burrow’s recovery this week, Bengals director of personnel Duke Tobin provided a rather positive update.

“As far as I know, it’s going really well,” Tobin said, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “He’s been around the building a lot, rehabbing. He’s Joe, so you know that a 100 percent effort is going to go into it. He’s focused on it. All the reports that we’ve gotten have been very positive, so we expect a full recovery and we expect him to continue being Joe.”

It was a trying 2023 campaign for Burrow, who dealt with a calf injury over the first several weeks of the season. When he was finally getting into his groove, he ended up injuring his wrist, knocking him out after just 10 games.

Head coach Zac Taylor refused to put a timetable on Burrow, but, like Tobin, he acknowledged that he is progressing well.

“I know everything’s progressing as expected,” Taylor said. “And so, as well as anybody over my six years here, I’ve made a lot of errors making proclamations about injury timelines. And so all I can say is that it’s progressing as expected. He’s doing really well. So we’re excited about this offseason with Joe and once we get closer, we’ll have a better idea.”

During the time he was on the field this past season, Burrow threw for 2,309 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 66.8% of his passes and posting a passer rating of 91.

The 27-year-old is entering his fifth NFL season and has already led Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance. He also made a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2022.

We’ll see if Joe Burrow can rebound and bring the Bengals back to prominence next season.
