Summertime is approaching, and Nebraska Athletics is staying busy. From the football team to the baseball program, it seems as though Husker athletics is filling up their schedule. Even the basketball team, whose activity has slowed down in recent weeks, is doing some recruiting.

From baseball entering a key stretch to football trying to bring more talent to Lincoln, we take a look at all these things in our Nebraska Athletics roundup.

Nebraska football doing some big-time recruiting

Nebraska football is having a busy month on the recruiting trail. While there has only been one commitment in quarterback TJ Lateef so far, the program is trending with some top targets. Michael Terry, David Sanders, and Dawson Merritt have all expressed interest in coming to the Nebraska football program.

Terry has spoken highly of his visit to Nebraska, and Sanders was ‘blown away’ by his visit itself. In the meantime, Merritt is deciding between Nebraska football and Alabama. You can check out more information about these recruitments in our football recruiting roundup.

Nebraska basketball pushing for elite transfer portal forward

in the meantime, Nebraska basketball is making some headway of their own on the recruiting trail. They are set to host UCLA forward Berke Buyuktuncel on a visit Thursday.

This is an intriguing visit, as Buyuktuncel is extremely talented. He was ranked as a four-star recruit in high school, and has generated a ton of interest in the transfer portal. Nebraska basketball will have to make a strong push in order to vie for his services. Kentucky, Virginia, Cincinnati, Washington, Ohio State, and Iowa are just some of the programs that have been interested in him so far.

Buyuktuncel has been busy this week, as he has already visited BYU on Monday and Tuesday. He has no visits currently lined up following Nebraska, as noted in a report from HuskerOnline’s Robin Washut.

This is certainly an interesting visit for Nebraska basketball. If he were to commit, he would give the program multiple years of eligibility, as well as a versatile player. He can shoot from both inside the paint and beyond the arc. In that regard, he would be a perfect fit in Fred Hoiberg’s system. This is definitely a recruitment to watch closely.

Nebraska baseball heads to Michigan State for important series

Nebraska baseball will be on the road beginning Thursday night, as they had to Michigan State for a conference series. The Huskers will send their ace to the mound for the opening game on Thursday, as Brett Sears (7-0, 2.11 ERA) will be on the bump against Michigan State’s Joseph Dizerwa (6-2, 3.86 ERA.) Thursday’s opener will start at 5:00 PM CT and be available on B1G +.

This is an intriguing series, as it is a rematch of their meeting in the Big Ten tournament last year. Nebraska won by a 4-0 margin. The last time these two teams met in East Lansing was in 2021. They took two out of three games from Michigan State that year.

Currently, this game has a ton of meaning for Nebraska baseball. The Huskers can clinch the regular-season title if they win and Illinois loses two games. They can clinch a share of the title if they win three games and Illinois loses one game. They also have the ability to clinch a share of the title if they win two games and Illinois loses two games.

Overall, this is a very important weekend for Nebraska baseball. There’s a lot at stake, and a lot to play for. This would also be a big step for coach Will Bolt, whose tenure in Lincoln has been inconsistent so far.
